Rain and Towels
After hours of research, we are proud to announce a stunning and unique new finding: there is no correlation between the weather and sales of towels on the Towelsrus website.
We suspected that people would buy more towels on rainy days for a number of reasons:
- they are not at the beach, unlike on sunny days
- they may have been at the beach the day before and realised how much they wanted a new beach towel, and then shopped around and bought one the next day
- they are getting wetter because of the rain
- they are getting dirtier because of the puddles and taking more showers and reminding themselves to buy new towels, and bath robes too
However, our findings indicate that none of the above reasons has made any dent in sales figures. A bit disappointing, but at least we know now.
10 points to the first person who can identify the location of the stormy photo above.

Egyptian Cotton Bed Linen – A Buyer’s Guide
Egyptian cotton bed linen has long been associated with quality and superior handle and drape. Egyptian cotton’s winning characteristics are due to it’s extra long staple. The long fibres produce finer, stronger yarn that can be woven into higher thread counts than inferior cottons giving a super crisp or silky satin feel to the bed linen.
Are Other Cottons Equal?
There are many areas outside Egypt where high quality, long staple cotton is grown from the same or similar plants. Most of the world’s cotton is grown in the United States, Uzbekistan, China and India. Other leading countries producing raw cotton of equally long staple are Brazil, Pakistan and Turkey.
Thread Count
The thread count of bed linen refers to the number of threads going across (weft) and vertically (warp) within 12 inch of cloth. Thread count can be a good general indicator to the fineness and quality of bed linen. Quality bed linen starts at around 180 threads per inch, and luxury bed linen around 300 threads right up to 1000.
At 180 thread count the individual threads are thinker producing hard wearing bed linen with a crisper feel. Bed linen with a higher thread count is made with thinner threads producing a softer more luxurious feel.
What is Percale Bed Linen?
Percale is a term which refers to the woven quality of bedding. Any bed linen constructed of 180 threads per inch or higher is called Percale whether it is woven from cotton or polycotton. Percale bed linen is tighter woven and smoother than lower thread counts and is usually regarded as the benchmark starting point for quality bed linen.
Other Factors in Determining Quality
As a natural product, the quality of the cotton used to make the thread is paramount in creating high quality woven bed linen. This can be affected by growing conditions (weather, soil, temperature) and of course, the plant type. The care with which the cotton is prepared before being made into thread, the thread making process and the quality of production all go to determine the quality of the bed linen that you sleep on.
Choosing Your Perfect Bed Linen
Consider whether you prefer hotel style crisp Egyptian Cotton bed linen, or a softer more luxurious feel. Comfort is all important in creating the perfect nights sleep, and the right cotton bed linen is a vital part of this. Also consider whether you are looking for bed linen with a strong construction, able to withstand frequent washing, or is luxury more important?
Towelsrus offers a wide range of Egyptian Cotton bed linen in thread counts from 180 to 1000 with a range of finishes, suitable for small hotels, guest houses, luxury villas and every type of home.

The winter’s gone, and summer days are finally here, lets hope it stays around for a while!
Much as we love the heat of the summer, heat can make sleeping uncomfortable, stuffy and hot. You need to start thinking about how the temperature may affect your sleep at night. If you haven’t altered your bedding since winter then it will be too heavy and warm for the hot summer evenings. Strip your bed and replace your sheets with cool bed linen or cotton, for a wonderful way to keep cool in the summer.
Towelsrus advise you to invest in a new lightweight duvet for the warm summer nights. Choose a duvet with a low tog rating (3 – 5) and a natural filling to regulate your body temperature throughout the night.

Towels are an every day part of life. There is nothing quite like stepping out of the shower or bath and wrapping yourself into a soft fluffy clean towel. Drying dishes would take forever without towels. We use towels for drying and cleaning during everyday chores, and anyone who has ever bought towels for a family can tell you they aren’t exactly cheap to replace on a regular basis.
Washing and drying towels properly can prolong their life up to five or ten years.
Our top tips for caring for your towels:
- First of all always follow the washing instructions on the label of the towel or garment.
- Linen and cotton just loves to be washed and ironed. The more linen is washed the softer, nicer and shinier it becomes.
- Use the right washing agents
- The detergents that contain bleaching agents are perfect for white linen but should not be used for washing coloured linen or else your linen would get discoloured or spotted.
- Only bleach-free detergents must be used for washing coloured articles.
- Use pure soap or gentle detergents.
- Soap works best in soft water.
- Never use chlorine bleaches to avoid damage to the fibres.
- Only oxygen-type bleaches should be used for white linen washing.
- However, no bleach should be used when washing spun, coloured or embroidered linen.
- Never use softener for towels as this clogs the pores which then causes the towels to retain odours and reduces the absorbency!
